FlipSIDE 2024 Group Exhibition SWAY draws inspiration from the Cantonese slang 吊吊揈 (diu3*4 diu3*2 fing6*3), which conveys the physical motion of swaying from side to side. It also signifies uncertainty and a feeling of being somewhere by nowhere simultaneously, with a hint of futility.
25 artists from different fields and art practices interpret the concept of sway through their artwork, providing a diverse and in-depth exploration. Their artwork embodies ideas of sway driven by contextual, linguistic, aesthetic, and sensory aspects, along with traditional and contemporary cultural influences.
Sway serves as an embracing reminder of our shared human experience. It invites the public to look into the complexities and uncertainties in moments of life through art and to let them know "You are not alone".
A Gentleman
I envisage a man existing, somewhere, somehow. Drifting. Aimless.
Maybe he simply doesn’t know what to do, so is just going with the flow. Perhaps he’s lying in bed, unwilling to get up and participate in the day, allowing life to pass him by. Or maybe he’s gone out for a walk, looking for a right direction. Is he trying to find himself or be found?
